Makeitalia’s Supply Chain Challenge – Italian League 21-22 is about to come to an end. On Thursday 26 May 2022, the penultimate match of the second qualifying phase of the first Italian Championship in the Supply Chain was played at the University of Siena.
The students of the course – taught in English – Manufacturing Strategies and Operations (Engineering Management) by Professor Elena Pessot have been the protagonists of the ninth stage of the initiative promoted by Makeitalia, dedicated to students of the Master’s Degree Courses in Management Engineering.
The Professor commented on the experience as follows: “I strongly believe in the use of tools such as ‘Business Games’ within a degree course such as that of Management Engineering. Students are used to learning models and practicing on precise data and, sometimes, they risk not fully grasping the complexity and uncertainty of the competitive environment and supply chains, as well as the decision-making capacity that companies have to face every day. Thanks to the Supply Chain Game, students were able to immerse themselves in the role of a manager and make both strategic and tactical choices, seeing the impact in terms of efficiency. This is a great training experience which also leaves ample room for fun and which students can also boast in their Curriculum Vitae when, in a few months, they will enter the workplace“.
“The game was really interesting for me, because I had the opportunity to work in the Supply Chain area before, so I have been able to see that the game is really close to reality. I think it’s good to apply the knowledge we learn in University in a game like this one. Moreover, I had a lot of fun“, added Laura Pachon, one of the students involved in the qualifying phase on May 26th.
At the end of the challenge, the winning team of the University of Siena was proclaimed. Thus, it directly arrives at the Finals 21-22, the final phase which will be in September, when all the winners of the Italian Universities involved in the Championship qualifying period will confront each other.
Special thanks go to the students who participated in the event on May 26 and to Professor Elena Pessot.
